The NFL POLICY:
- I 100% agree with the new policy even though that might mean Brian Westbrook cant play for a while i still think the policy is smart. A concussion is a serious thing and "one-fifth of 160 NFL players surveyed by The Associated Press from Nov. 2-15 replied that they have hidden or played down the effects of a concussion." Playing with a concussion can worsen the effects it hit repeatedly more than once.

Source: NBA to unveil policy this week

The NBA will this week introduce what it considers "minimal" guidelines for players, coaches and team officials when using Twitter and other social networking sites, according to sources with knowledge of the policy.

The primary restriction of the policy is expected to prevent various team representatives from tweeting during games, after the stir caused late last season when Detroit Pistons forward Charlie Villanueva, then with Milwaukee, tweeted from the Bucks' locker room during halftime.

One source described the forthcoming policy as "very minimal" and "less stringent" than the guidelines announced earlier this month by the NFL, which now regards players, coaches and football operations personnel -- or any third party representing them -- to be in violation of league rules if they use social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook from 90 minutes before kickoff through the end of the standard post-game access period for media interviews.

Individual NBA teams, though, will have the right to impose their own standards that might be more strict, as seen with the NBA dress code where some teams in the past have mandated more formal apparel -- such as suits on team flights -- than league rules dictate.

The source said that the NBA's new policy, furthermore, will treat social-networking commentary in the same manner as comments made in the traditional media, which means that anyone in the league can be fined or otherwise sanctioned for posts via Twitter, Facebook, etc., that are deemed over the line.

Villanueva was not fined by his team or the league last season but was forbidden by Bucks coach Scott Skiles from tweeting again during games. Mobile-phone usage in the locker room and on team buses has long been frowned upon in the NBA, but the severity of restrictions generally vary from team to team given the rise in recent years in texting and e-mailing from handheld devices.

Dallas Mavericks owner Mark Cuban received the NBA's first-ever fine for comments he made via his Twitter account, when Cuban was docked $25,000 last March after complaining about the referees' refusal to call Denver Nuggets guard J.R. Smith for a technical foul following a clash between Smith and then-Mavericks guard Antoine Wright.

The league did not announce the fine, but Cuban disclosed the punishment via his Twitter feed, revealing that it could no longer be said that "no one makes money from Twitter now" because "the NBA does."

Asked if the Mavericks will impose their own Twitter restrictions on their players this season, Cuban said Sunday: "Not really. I will talk to the guys about never venting or talking about team business on Twitter. That's usually what creates problems. [But] Twitter is just another form of media. What you say on Twitter is like saying it on ESPN."

Formal confirmation of the new policy is expected from the league office this week after teams are officially notified. The NBA Players Association has likewise said that it will withhold comment until details of the league's policy are announced.

The NBA is widely considered to be one of the major professional sports leagues most associated with Twitter usage, largely thanks to Cleveland Cavaliers center Shaquille O'Neal, who responded to a Twitter user pretending to be O'Neal by launching his own Twitter feed, which now boats more than 2.3 million followers.

Other Twitter landmarks in the NBA besides Villanueva's halftime tweet include the June disclosure by Minnesota Timberwolves forward Kevin Love that coach Kevin McHale was leaving the organization -- before the news had been reported anywhere else -- and Allen Iverson's numerous tweets about his summerlong courtship and eventual signing with the Memphis Grizzlies.

i think it was a good article. it had all the necessary things and it was interesting. i think they are right for stopping athletics from using twitter during, before, and after the games. they can cause unwanted problems before the game.

SAN FRANCISCO and NEW YORK (Reuters) - A battle between the pop star and the fashion brand just turned fierce.

Abercrombie & Fitch Co, the apparel retailer known for sexy advertising and casual looks, has sued the singer Beyonce Knowles, claiming her plan for a new fragrance to be launched in early 2010 infringes on its existing trademark.

In a federal lawsuit filed on Tuesday in Columbus, Ohio, Abercrombie claims a fragrance under the singer's "Sasha Fierce" label "poses a likelihood of confusion" with the retailer's own "Fierce" brand.

It said such confusion could deprive it of control over a trademark it has used since 2002, and perhaps cost it sales. The lawsuit seeks to halt potential trademark infringement, unfair competition and deceptive trade practices.

Representatives of Knowles did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Best known for clothing sold to teens and college-age adults, New Albany, Ohio-based Abercrombie said it has sold more than $190 million worth of fragrance under the Fierce name, and expects $64 million of sales in 2009.

Abercrombie sells Fierce at more than 350 retail stores and on its website, typically for $40 to $70 in bottles featuring a young man's muscular, nude torso. The fragrance is sprayed throughout stores via a scent machine or by store employees.

"A&F's intent is that all garments that leave the store have the FIERCE scent attached to them," the complaint said.

The company markets Fierce as a men's cologne whose "fresh citrus aroma" and "warm musky subtleness" will "naturally draw her curiosity because of its seductive nature."

A saleswoman at a San Francisco store nonetheless described it as a "unisex" scent.

WHO IS MORE FIERCE?

Fragrance maker Coty Inc has signed an agreement to market Knowles' fragrance.

Knowles, often known solely by her first name, is one of the world's best-known singers, after having risen to fame as lead singer of the group Destiny's Child.

Last November, her album "I am ... Sasha Fierce" debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard 200 chart. On Sunday, the song "Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)" from that album won the Video of the Year award at the MTV Video Music Awards.

In English vernacular "fierce" means "cool" or "fabulous."

The case is Abercrombie & Fitch Co v. Knowles, U.S. District Court, Southern District of Ohio (Columbus), No. 09-807.

You require an application and at least one reference. It occurs to you that you could look online to find out a bit more about the applicants.

Where would you look? And what might you find that would make you not hire someone?
I would look on Myspace or Facebook because almost everyone has one or the other and if the have one you could find out a lot about someone by the picture and comments they post online. Something you could find that makes you want to not find them is maybe half nude pictures, or pictures of them with weapons, or anything of that nature.

    Thursday, September 10, 2009

A group of girls were fighting with one of their friends, Nicole. They created a “Rate Nicole” group on a social networking site. They posted embarrassing photos of Nicole from middle school and high school and invited their hundreds of “friends” to join the group to look at the photos, and tell Nicole how she stacked up. Cruel and crude comments were posted on the group’s message board. One message said that some girls were planning to beat up Nicole. At school, Nicole got text messages on her cell phone saying, “Take a look at what everyone thinks of you.”

    What’s the Problem?
People were using the internet to get back at Nicole

What emotions do you think Nicole felt when she saw the photos and read all the comments online?
She was probably feeling mad that someone would take it as far a posting photos online of her a long time ago. also she was probably depressed that everyone turned against her over a little fight.

How do you think she felt when she read that some girls wanted to beat her up?
She probably felt scared that she has to watch her back

How do you think this situation affected the learning environment of the school?
Everyone was probably more worried about whats going to happen to Nicole that they didn't pay attention in the classroom.

What advice you would you give Nicole?
I would tell her that things could be a lot worst and that she should either go to the principal or the police

What advice would you give the girls who created the group?
I would tell them to try and shut down the blog before things get out of control and that they should try and resolve things with Nicole.

What could you do if you witnessed a similar situation online that made you worried?
    I would tell someone
